The Five Sisters Lodge in Belize

Dec 09

The Five Sisters Lodge & Tours obtained it’s name from the five perfectly gushing waterfalls and the numerous crystal pools that form part of this natural wonder. These waterfalls empty into the famous Privassion River, which meanders through the heart of the Forest Reserve.

The Five Sisters Lodge & Tours is located in the scenic Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve. This is the largest protected area in Belize, boasting an immense Rain Forest and natural Wildlife Sanctuary. The Five Sisters Lodge & Tours obtained it’s name from the five perfectly gushing waterfalls and the numerous crystal pools that form part of this natural wonder. Hidden Valley Inn in Belize

Dec 05

I happened upon a site for the Hidden Valley Inn in Belize today and had to share this photo. “Hidden Valley Inn is located high in the Mountain Pine Ridge in the Cayo District of Belize, Central America. This secluded lodge, situated amidst 7200 acres of private reserve, offers guests both pine forest and tropical jungle where the flora and fauna are like few places on earth.”

From hiking to biking to exploring caves, the Hidden Valley Inn will help you setup activities to explore the surroundings.  If you’re a fan of Mayan ruins you’ll want to check out their site as they have expeditions to many of the major and minor sites including Tikal.  Check it out at http://www.hiddenvalleyinn.com/maya_sites.html

Beautiful Bran Castle in Romania

Dec 01

Saw this today and had to post it. The photo is amazing of this place.  I’d love to be able to take a shot like this with the castle lit up at night and the fog rolling in over the hills and trees.  Could see why this would make a perfect setting for a story like Dracula.

Bran Castle (Romanian: Castelul Bran; German: Törzburg; Hungarian: Törcsvár), situated near Bran and in the immediate vicinity of Braşov, is a national monument and landmark in Romania. The fortress is situated on the border between Transylvania and Wallachia, on DN73. Commonly known as “Dracula’s Castle” (although it is one among several locations linked to the Dracula legend, including Poenari Castle and Hunyad Castle), it is marketed as the home of the titular character in Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Belize Tours & Adventure Activities

Belize is one of the most amazing countries from the jungles to the ocean.  It’s one of my favorites because of these two major attractions.  The Mayan ruins are in my opinion un-rivaled in their beauty and splendor.  The crystal clear azure waters are also second to none.

“Adventurers of all ages and abilities. We also offer carefully designed tours that open up the fascinating world of Belize, from inland Maya archaeological treasures to the stunning Barrier Reef, beautiful cayes and coastal resorts and villages.”

“Chaa Creek Nature Reserve’s miles of lush, well maintained trails are perfect for horseback riding, mountain biking, and hiking, and our licensed guides are here to help you explore Belize’s natural history including the fascinating Maya civilisation, which once thrived in this area. Canoe trips down the beautiful Macal River are a relaxing way to travel through the jungle, and with our Natural History Centre, Butterfly Farm, Rainforest Medicine Trail and numerous activities, your days at Chaa Creek are wonderfully full. And for exquisite pampering, there’s always the Hilltop Spa with stunning views and professional treatments guaranteed to soothe the spirit.”

World’s Best Snorkeling Islands

Nov 17

One of my favorite activities to do when I travel is to snorkel.  You’re transported to a new world you can only explore by getting under the water.  You get to see fish, corral and other items you wouldn’t see anywhere else.

I recently ran across this article from Island Magazine about the top places to snorkel in the world.  I had to check it out to see if there where places I had been but more importantly to see where I should go next.

First on the list is Santa Catalina, California
“Slip into the temperate waters of Lover’s Cove on Santa Catalina. Just 22 miles from the coast of greater Los Angeles.”

Next is Dimakya Island, Philippines
“Forget sharks, whales and dolphins. If you want true bragging rights in the snorkeling world – in the world in general, for that matter – swim with dugongs.”

Uepi Island, Solomon Islands
“Imagine floating through Grand Central Terminal during a fire alarm at rush hour: You’re still not really close to the amount of action, color and movement that awaits mere steps off the beach at Uepi Island.”

Lord Howe Island, Australia
“At the southernmost coral reef in the world, more than 490 tropical and temperate species mix and mingle. And because only a limited number of guests are allowed on Australia’s Lord Howe Island at a time, you can witness the spectacle in what feels like total isolation.”

Huahine, Islands of Tahiti
“Underwater and above, Huahine has some of the best – and least-known – places to discover in Tahiti. There’s a small motu, or islet, at the entrance to Port Bourayne Bay, a short outrigger ride from Te Tiare Beach Resort.”

Bonaire
“Discover what a vibrant, lush and pristine Caribbean reef is supposed to look like. Come to Bonaire.”

Andros Island, Bahamas
“From the air, Andros Island looks like someone sprayed it with a machine gun, riddling the island with holes, Chicago gangland style. In the Southern Bight of this Bahamian island, you’ll find a series of oceanic versions of blue holes.”

Big Island, Hawaii
“If you want to encounter the full range of local Hawaiian marine life, including many endemic species, come to Kealakekua Bay. The sheltered bay is only about 12 miles south of Kailua Kona on the Big Island and is home to green sea turtles, spinner dolphins and, from about December to May, humpback whales. Even if you don’t go eye-to-eye with the gentle giants — an experience that will rock your world – you will defi nitely feel and hear their haunting whale song.”
