Monuriki Island Mamanucas in Fiji

Mar 22

Talk about a snorkeling or scuba paradise.  This island is amazing.  It’s call the Monuriki Island  and is located in Fiji.

Monuriki became somewhat famous in the 2000 Tom Hanks film, “Cast Away”, about a man whose plane crashes on the island.  The closest inhabited island is  Tavua, with a population of some 2,400 people.

On Tavua there is a hotel named after the island, Tavua Hotel.

Monuriki has now become a popular tourist destination due to its appearance in the film and it’s easy to see why people would want to visit this little piece of heaven.  With the azure waters and lush forest what’s not to love.  The island has a unique formation with part sticking out of the water a shallow reef and then a progressively deeper reef surrounding the island.

Castaway Island in Fiji

Today I found a great website that covers all the Fiji Islands.  The first one that I looked at is the Castaway Island.

Castaway Island is one of the most popular AAA accredited four star Fiji Island resorts. Fiji Resorts accommodation at its best! Known traditionally by the Fijians as “Qalito”, this pristine private island environment is perfect for romantic couples, scuba diving and families.

As with other pieces of paradise, you won’t find a Motel 6 here.  A week at the resort with cost your around $1000-1200 which isn’t that bad for a resort of this quality and surrounded by such beauty.

I highly recommend that you visit the site and take in all the photos and videos they have to get a better review of the island and all that it has to offer.
