Talk about a snorkeling or scuba paradise. This island is amazing. It’s call the Monuriki Island and is located in Fiji.
Monuriki became somewhat famous in the 2000 Tom Hanks film, “Cast Away”, about a man whose plane crashes on the island. The closest inhabited island is Tavua, with a population of some 2,400 people.
On Tavua there is a hotel named after the island, Tavua Hotel.
Monuriki has now become a popular tourist destination due to its appearance in the film and it’s easy to see why people would want to visit this little piece of heaven. With the azure waters and lush forest what’s not to love. The island has a unique formation with part sticking out of the water a shallow reef and then a progressively deeper reef surrounding the island.
